Engraved Book Covers

For the engraved book covers project, I continued to build upon the imaginative work from the “Pen to Pastry” and “Literary Postcards” series. The meticulous hand-drawn lines of the elaborate designs call attention to vintage printing techniques, reflecting the old sacred practice of storytelling through written word.

Each of the stories captured in the revised book covers symbolize exploration of nature in their imagery. Anne of Green Gables, The Gardener, and Island of the Blue Dolphins all provided an enthusiastic and wondrous approach to nature appreciation that spoke to me as a young child. Tapping into themes of nature celebration, engaging in awe, and connecting back to childlike innocence through art are all areas that I tried to depict in the pieces.
